Praying
the Way Jesus
Taught Us
to Pray
A Bible study
on the gift and power of prayer.
Here
Jesus gives us His stipulations about prayer. They are very clear and self -explanatory.
Matthew 6:5
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they
love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that
they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut
thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in
secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But
when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that
they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8
'Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have
need of, before ye ask him.
The
next scriptures, we all know. Together we will learn through scripture the way
Jesus taught us to pray. I will go through scripture by scripture explaining
with other scriptures to open up a whole new realm of prayer in your life.
'Matthew
6:9 ¶After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Here
is where we call to our Father in Heaven. Giving him the praise, honor, and glory
only He deserves.
'Psalms
44:8 In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.
'Psalms
54:6 I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O LORD;
for it is good.
'Psalms
74:21 O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise
thy name.
'Philippians
4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are
honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things
are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and
if there be any praise, think on these things
'Hebrews
13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually,
that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
Over
and over in the scripture, they praised Gods name. When we start praying
we should start with praise to our Father.
'Matthew
6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Praying
for His kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
We are actually praying for Heaven on Earth. Think about that, His will on Earth
as it is in Heaven.
'Matthew
18:14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that
one of these little ones should perish.
Gods
will is that we would all be saved.
'Matthew
26:42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father,
if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
'Mark
14:36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take
away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
Jesus
knew the pain and torture that he had to endure for us. Knowing this was God
the Fathers will he was willing to do it. Not his will but the fathers.
'Mark
3:35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and
my sister, and mother.
Here
Jesus is calling us part of the family. That is the way we should look at each
other.
'Psalms
40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
Thy
law is within my heart. So his law is his will for our lives.
'Psalms
143:10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good;
lead me into the land of uprightness.
Here
David prayed for God to teach him Gods will. We should always pray for
Gods guidance in our lives
'Matthew
6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.
We
all have needs and God knows that. We should ask him for our needs and believe
he will supply them.
'Matthew
6:32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly
Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
'Matthew
6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all
these things shall be added unto you.
He
knows are needs and he will supply them if we seek him and his righteousness.
'Matthew
7:7 ¶Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and
it shall be opened unto you:
'God
has given us an open door to what heaven has for us. Just take the incentive to
seek, ask, and knock.
'Luke
12:29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither
be ye of doubtful mind.
'Luke
12:30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your
Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
We
are not to worry about our needs but to believe in him. He will not let us down.
'Hebrews
11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh
to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently
seek him.
'Romans
12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among
you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think
soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
God
has given us all a measure of faith. Faith is the only way to please God. We
must believe he will provide and is a rewarder of them who diligently seek him.
When we stand in faith our Father provides. That is a wonderful testimony to
God.
'Matthew
6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
'Matthew
6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also
forgive you:
'Matthew
6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father
forgive your trespasses.
'Mark
11:25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any:
that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
God
expects us to forgive others. Just as He forgives us. How can we stand before
the father if we cant have forgiveness in our hearts to our brothers and
sisters? We should always forgive and if you are having difficulty ask the Father
to help you through it. He will guide each step of the way.
Help us not follow after our own lusts but deliver us from evil. For His kingdom
power and glory forever, not our own.
Matthew 26:41 Watch
and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but
the flesh is weak.
'Matthew
4:1 ¶Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted
of the devil.
'Corinthians
10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but
God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able;
but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to
bear it.
Jesus
was tempted by the devil. So he knows what we are going through and understands.
That is why he will always give us a way to escape. We must realize He is our
only way of escape. Jesus gave us the outline to a successful prayer life. It
is up to us to use it. When we are strong in the Lord we can help others to come
to Christ. Learning from Jesus, is the best way to do Gods will.
